Tradeskills To Level 9 No Harvesting Required

February 19th, 2007

Here is a guide to get you to level 9 or 10 where you can choose your craft.

How to advance tradeskills without harvesting once at qeynos/freeport:

Tradeskills summary: Your tradeskill level is seperate from your class level.
Yuu will probably be level 3 or so unless you worked tradeskills on the island.
At level 9 you can choose a tradeskill subclass (more on that later). This guide tells you how to get to level 9 quickly.
You earn tradeskill points by taking ingredients and making an item. The item can be used by you (eaten), sold, or used to make higher level items.

You can go out and harvest, gather, mine items, or you can buy them and make the ingredients.

The trick is to find items for sale by the "wholesaler", the little guy at the bottom of the stairs. I used cooking, and found a recipe where all but one item was for sale by wholesaler.

First, you buy the ingredients listed below, and the books for level 3 through 9. Then go to the stove and make these items.
KEEP THE stuff you make–do not eat or discard. READ your books after you level, you need to books for the new skills.

Below Level 6, make these foods:

Minimum Level 3, Buy Stack of 40:

Chocolate Bar
Cocoa (buy from wholesaler)
Cream (buy from wholesaler)
Coal (buy from wholesaler)

Minimum Level 4, Buy Stack of 20:
Candied Pecan
Pecan (buy from broker–look at market during early morning or night)
Nutmeg (buy from wholesaler)
Coal (buy from wholesaler)

Minimum level 6:

Fudge:
Chocolate bar (you should have stack of 20, you just made it)
Cream (buy from wholesaler)
Coal (buy from wholesaler)

Minimum level 7:
Pecan Fudge
Chocolate Bar (you should have a stack of 20, you just made it)
Candied Pecan (you should have a stack of 20, just made it)
Coal (buy from wholesaler)

Making these stacks should get you pretty close to 9, and you don’t have to gather for anything (but you gotta pay $ to broker/wholesaler).
Even though you used cooking to get to level 9, you don’t have to stick with cooking for your subclass.

At level 9, choose your subclass. Go to Qeynos harbor and find Alfred Ironforge or go to the Freeport coalition of tradesfolk and talk to Aletha Augustine. At this time choose your speciality:
*Craftsman: makes wood and food
*Outfitter: makes weapons, bags, armor
*Scholar: makes spells, jewelry, potions.

Once you have chose the specialty, go back and get to level 10. At level 10 you can join your subclass guild (in your home city).

Note: I tried making Nutmeg cake at level 9 (a level 8 recipe) which requires all wholeseller bought stuff and it appeared bugged. After level 1 cake seemed completed, it would start all the way back at level 1 cake, instead of moving to level 2. I never moved past level 2 cake (6 times) or level 1 cake (14 times).
