Get started in the crafting side of EQ2 (Everquest 2 PVP)
December 29th, 2010This little guide is to help you get started in the crafting side of EQ2. Its a simple process but the ingredients and recipies can become quite complex.
For certain items, you will have to find items throughout the realm by harvesting them. The first goal for any wannabe crafter would be to collect these items. In every newbie zone you will see rocks, tree stumps, nests and other similar items that can be targeted and harvested in some way or another (use the F key). So for your first few levels of playing you may wish to collect these items to prepare yourself for lots of crafting.
The other alternative is that if you have alot of coin, you can purchase some ingredients from NPC merchants. This will allow you to grind more quickly as you can purchase and sell the ingredients and products you produce as you make them. This process is not self sufficient to start with, any coin you make will likely be spent on new recipies to continue levelling.
THE PROCESS.
Crafting requires a crafting station, these can be found in designated crafting areas that have the machines needed to craft (depending on what you are crafting).
In order to use a crafting station, you need a recipie appropriate to the station (making armor on a woodwork bench is not effective
). You will also need the ingredients to the recipie which includes the fuels and other items needed to put it together.
Your recipies can be found from your menu. Their colors correspond to their difficulty. You want to craft white or blue items to get the best experience. Right click and examine each recipie to see the ingredients and all its other details.
Find your recipie, gather the ingredients and use your crafting station. Double click the recipie that you want to make and it will bring up an ingredients list. The boxes will fill up automatically if you have the right ingredients but can be changed if needed (not till later levels).
Once all your ingredient slots are fill, click BEGIN!
You will start working on the item, attempting to make it better as you craft, you can watch your progress as you craft each item.
Once you are done with the item the station sparkles and you get experience as well as the option to repeat the item again. Continue this until you level!
LEVELLING
You will be able to see your level and progress from your PERSONA sheet (press P). Once you level, you will be able to purchase new recipies! Recipie books are how you do this. Each one has a number at the end, this corresponds to the level you are EG: "Artisan Essentials Volume 7" is for level 7 artisans.
To begin, you will only be able to purchase and use ARTISAN recipies, once you reach high enough level you will be able to get the more specialised recipies but artisan ones are great for levelling and making some extra coin!
It is likely that you will spend more money on ingredients than you will make, but once you get to level 10 or so, you are able to craft some scrolls and spells that you can sell to players for some good coin! These items are usually not available from NPC vendors.
Here are the fastest items to craft to level. You will find that to start with you will only need to craft 3 or 4 items to level so don’t overbuy ingredients. You should be able to purchase the ingredients for all these recipies from the merchants in the crafting areas. You can also sell your crafted products back to these merchants
