Aliases (Eq2 skill)
February 23rd, 2011There are several /commands that have been ‘in-game’ since as early as beta, but don’t yet work. I check them periodicly to see if they’ve been implemented yet, and today it paid off: /alias now works!
For those of you who played SWG, no further explaination is needed- its implemented in the same way as that game, so enjoy.
For the rest: An alias allows you to create ‘custom’ game commands. They function essential like in-game macros, with the difference being that rather than binding them to a hot key, you activate them by using the custom command you set them to.
The syntax:
/alias [new command name]:[existing command]
so, for example,
/alias ?:sit
creates a new command: /? which, when executed, causes you to sit.
Ok, no big deal, right? well, you can chain commands using the space-semicolon-space syntax you should already be familiar with. So, lets create an actual useful alias.
/alias !:yell ; toggleautoattack ; doability Sprint
Now, without taking up a valuable hotkey spot, you’ve created a new command /! which, when used, does the following: breaks an encounter, stops autoattack (I have to put this in because I leave autoface on- I can’t tell you how many times I’ve died because I was trying to run away from a mob, but kept getting turned around to run back to the mob because I failed to stop attacking after I broke the encounter) and starts sprinting. Pretty handy.
Or heres another: your a priest. You can summon food water. But if your like me, you don’t keep that spell on any hotbar thats handy- if sombody asks for summoned food/drink, I have to open my book, change pages to my spells, and then click the spell. screw that.
/alias food:doability Summon Food and Water
bada bing. next time sombody asks for food- I just target them and type /food. How cool is that?
I haven’t yet tested putting macros in aliases, or vice-versa. It may be possible, but there is the issue of recursion (looping macros- a big no-no per SOE), so it may be blocked. stay tuned, and feel free to add your own useful aliases.
Unlimited Bag Space (Eq2 character)
February 20th, 2011Here is a neat trick when adventuring.
There is a quest(can’t remember which one) that gives you a bag that can only hold gathering items. Get this…
Then when adventuring simple make sure you have on free spot in it and you will be able to pick up loot forever as what doesn’t fit in your other bags will overflow.
Acquire A Starter Necklace (Eq2 bruiser)
February 17th, 2011When you first arrive on the beach on the Island of Refuge, you’ll notice some crabs on the beaches. While it may be tempting to bypass these fellow and head straight for town……don’t!
Hack up enough crabs until a treasure box pops out of one. Open the treasure box and you’ll retrieve a sand shard. Open your inventory, and examine the shard. A "general" quest will be revealed which you can follow to completion to create a free magical necklace!
This quest is only revealed to you by killing a certain amount of crabs, otherwise it is unavailable through NPC chat. This is a very quick quest to complete, and results in free magical armor!
Isle Of Refuge – High Chieftain Kryx – Great Loots (Everquest 2 Power Leveling)
February 15th, 2011Before leaving the Island of Refuge, make sure you head up the High Chieftain’s tree and take out his posse and Kryx himself.
After killing Kryx you receive a treasure chest full of goodies. Namely, a Gruttooth Circlet, an Iodizite Shell Shield, and a tome of the Artisan Merchant’s Armor Volume 7.
I was able to solo these guys rather easily being maxed out on the island, and with ranged attacks as a mage. Not recommended for anyone under level 6.
If you’re a mage, a good strategy to use solo is to immediately target Kryx and cast Arcane Bindings on him followed by a quick Static Pulse. This will keep him locked down for a bit while you focus on his minions. Ensure to use the Heroic Opportunity Granted to you at this level (Cast Arcane Augur, Followed by two Lightning Bursts). This will help you kill his helpers quickly, and leave plenty of energy to spare when taking out Kryx himself.
The best part about this, is after killing this little tribe, if you run all the way to the top of the incline just around the corner from their spawn spot you can repeat it all over again. Attempting to confirm if the same drops can be acquired multiple times. Will update within 15 minutes.
Merchant & Broker, Money Making Idea (Eq2 maps)
February 12th, 2011Heya, this is just a simple idea (but i don’t think it’s that obvious) on how to make small sums (around 10-50silver every night).
Basically the idea is to look at your recipe book, and set the filter to only display refining materials processes. Then you would take a material like Allspice which can’t be bought by the merchant, and so can only be obtained from a broker, or by gathering your own. Then you would ‘Browse’ the market and look at how much other people are selling Allspice for:
Example:
Allspice x6 | 2s |
Allspice x20 |1s |
Allspice x20 |10c |
Allspice x5 |5c |
With this, you would buy all the Allspices (which you will be comfortable buying) and then sell them for the most that you bought them for. So after you start selling them, (placing in house vault, at which i strongly suggest that you buy two bags, so you can increase your vaults capacity) when you browse the market again it should look something like this:
From Example:
Allspice x20 |2s |
Allspice x20 | 2s |
Allspice x11 | 2s |
And hopefully no one else would sell Allspice cheaper than you, if someone was to, then just buy all the Allspice they have, and continue selling at 2s. Hopefully, after leaving the selling overnight selling from the house vault, people should find that they need Allspice to craft other things, and so they will be forced to either go out on a long arduous trip to collect Allspice, or have to pay for Allspice at a rather expensive level from the Broker. Which is what most people would do seeing as having to go out to search got Allspice is not as easy.
EQ2 Tutorial Walkthrough (Everquest 2 Ogaming)
February 10th, 2011This is the first version of the EQ2 Tutorial walkthrough. This will provide you with all the pertinent details you’ll need to successfully digest, and complete the initial EQ2 "ship" tutorial.
Step 1: Captain Varlos
You’ll appear on the ship next to Captain Varlos, double click on the Caption to initiate a conversation. Navigate through the initial conversation, and the Captain will gradually explain where you are, how you got there, and where you’re headed.
At the end of the conversation, Captain Varlos will ask you to go speak to his First Mate Waulon, who is located just to the NE of the captain at the back of the ship.
Step 2: First Mate Waulon
Waulon mentions to you he’s lost his hat, and you agree to find it. This task will teach you some of the simpler tasks in the game. Run S down the steps of the ship and head to the boxes on the wall at the other end of the ship. Search all three boxes by double clicking them, until a "loot dialogoue" pops up on your screen. You’ll see a hat. Click "Loot all", and return to waulon with his hat. A dialogue box will pop up stating Waulon as rewarded you the "Mariner’s Charm", click the accept button and the charm will now be in your inventory. Click "i" at anytime to view your inventory.
After returning Waulon’s hat he requests you speak to Ingrid….she is located just down the steps to the SW.
Step 3: Ingrid
Ingrid details an issue she’s having with the merchant Vim on the ship. She states she desires an artifact (a piece of the "moon) from Vim, and asks you to buy it for her. Problem is you have no money. No problem time to cash in that Mariner’s charm Waulon gave you back in step 2. Head to the S up the stairs to Vim.
Step 4: Vim
Double click Vim, and the standard EQ2 merchant dialogue will appear. At this point, click the sell tab, and double click your "mariner’s charm" to sell. You’ll receive 42 copper for the charm.
Now, click the buy tab. The Shard of Luclin is what Ingrid so desired, so buy it for her! At this point you’ll have 42 copper in your coffers, and the shard of luclin will set you back 36. So just double click, and it’s yours! At this point head back to Ingrid and present her with her gift.
Captain Varlos calls you back up to the deck.
Step 5: Back to Varlos
Once you run back up to Varlos, the Captain will ask you to clear the ship of the rat infestation which has set upon them. This is a chance to get a little combat practice.
Accept the task, and be sure to "accept" the splintered club the caption offers you in the dialogue box. Once you click accept hit the "i" button to open your inventory. Near the bottom of the inventory screen, double click the splintered club. This will equip the club as your main melee weapon.
Now head down to the lower portion of the ship and target some rats for battle! To target a rat, simply click on it or click the TAB button and cycle around the different rats on the ship. Once you have one targeted, it’s time to attack! You’ll notice the action bar on the lower portion of your screen. It consists of 13 buttons, and depending on the race you chose 5-8 of them will be filled with options.
However, for all races slot 2 will be equipped with the "melee attack" function. Once the rat is targeted, you can click this button with your mouse cursor, or simply click the number 2 on your keyboard. All buttons are bound to numbers 1-0, and the – and = keys on your keyboard. So now, target that rat and hit the number 2 on your keyboard.
After you’ve dropped the first rat, double click the carcass to harvest it. After double clicking, "loot" the rodent meat from the putrid animal and head off down the ship to take out the next rat! After killing and harvesting the second rat, head back up to Captain Varlos.
Step 6: Kill the Goblin
After completing the rodent quest, a dragon type creature will attack the ship and free the goblin that was caged next to merchant Vim. Head down and kill that goblin!
After dispatching the green menace, head back up to the Captain, he’ll congratulate you and send your on your way to the Island of Refuge!
Your done with the tutorial, and have all the tools you’ll need to get started in the actual game.
Congratulations!

Freeport Becoming A Citizen (Eq2 macro)
February 5th, 2011Welcome to Freeport Quest
After you decide to leave the lovely Island of Refuge for the Evil city of Freeport, you are presented with a variety of tasks which you first must accomplish to become recognized as a citizen by the Overlord of Freeport. When you first hit the docks of Freeport you may be shocked at how dark and dingy the place is………but after all it is EVVVVIIIIL as the good Doctor would say.
First thing you need to do is talk to your local Overseer on the docks. Not everyone is assigned the same initial neighborhood, so the name of the Overseer will vary from city to city, but the general tasks you must complete will remain the same. After speaking to the Overseer, he’ll direct you to take possession of your new "home" at the local Inn. Hit the "M" key and disable the fog on the map and locate the Inn. Navigate your way through the crowded, slimy streets of Freeport and click on the Inn’s main door. There is an innkeeper outside, but just ignore him…..he does little more at this point than peddle furniture for your home.
Once you’ve "purchased" your home, go inside and speak to the rude bald fellow, Slumlord Valthun. He will serve as your welcoming committee, if he could be called that. This fellow is undoubtedly the most rude person you’ve met thus far in the realms of EQ2, but you better get used to it. The bald fellow will ask you to head to the local banker to open your account and let the bad folk of Freeport know you’re in town. The banker will also ask you what you wish to be in this realm, an Artisan or an Adventurer. If you want to craft, you’re an Artisan…….if you want to be out in the wilds destroying notorious beasts and bringing glory through battle to the realm of Freeport…..you’re an adventurer at heart.
After speaking to the banker (make sure to press "H" to initiate the conversation, double clicking will just initiate the standard banking interface), head back to the Inn and speak with the bald fellow. He’ll be generally rude to you, but after all is said and done he’ll give you a new mirror for your home. Throw that bad boy on the wall and speak to him again, this time around he’ll instruct you to go down to the docks and locate the "Mariner’s Bell". There are two bells on the docks, one take you to areas outside of freeport, such as the "Common Areas" where you can do battle with monsters. Once you clicked on both of the bells, head back to your room and speak to the Slumlord. At this point, the slumlord will give you a chandelier which you can place in your room to your liking.
At this point, your character is becoming quite perturbed and wishes to know how he/she can become a citizen of Freeport, after demanding some more information the Slumlord will direct you to the gates of the city, where a small sign is placed where you can retrieve an application for citizenship. Examine the application, and accept the tasks it gives you.
Next Quest: Gaining Citizenship
You knew becoming a citizen wouldn’t be as simple as filling out an application didn’t you? Well turns out there are some more hurdles to jump through to become a citizen. To properly prove your worth as a possible citizen, you must head down into the sewers and kill a number of beasts until you gain 5 "coins" with which you can then present to Slumlord Vathun, who will then direct you to Abbetor Tavi.
However, before getting to that point there is the matter of reaching the sewers and killing the beasts. Ensure you have the "Freeport Citizenship" task active and follow the directions to the sewers. Double click on the sewer grate or manhole cover to hop down into the slime and filth. Once knee deep in muck, tread lightly! There are a ton of aggro monsters down here, so don’t stray too far from the initial ladder you came down. Target monsters close to the ladder, and blast or hack away until you have 5 coins. It may take killing 10-20 monsters to gain these 5 coins, but at this point in the game there is no reason to go any deeper into the sewers, you are only going to get killed repeatedly by mobs of "Diseased Ratongas".
Once you have the 5 coins, head back up out of the sewers and back to the Inn. Present the Slumlord with your 5 coins of Proof, and he will direct you with much disdain to speak to Abbetor Tavi. You can speak to Tavi by heading back to the same sign where you gained the application of citizenship. Double click on the sign and you are immediately transported to a new zone, where you have one final quest to complete before citizenship is granted, along with a new weapon and jewelry!
Take Out the Traitors!
You will arrive in a small cave apparently somewhere deep in the sewers, where Abbator Tavi will be waiting. She’ll explain to convince her, and the Overlord of your worthiness of citizenship, you must kill some traitors and other treacherous individuals just around the corner.
Keep in mind all the enemies down here are humanoid creatures. The bats, rats etc cannot be attacked. Your goal here is to kill the humanoids. Many of them do not even appear to be enemies to you initially, you must first strike up a conversation with them and eventually declare you’re there to do away with them on the orders of Tavi. As soon as this happens these guys will attack you without hesitation, so be prepared!
Take out each guy/gal/gnome/whatever one at a time, until you eventually reach the Fighter "Freeport Traitor" in the back of the sewer. After you sent him into the "next life", head back to Tavi for your rewards. She’ll grant you a new ring, a higher class weapon and a declaration of citizenship. Congratulations new citizen of Freeport!
Get All 8 Writs At Once – Bug (Eq2 station)
February 2nd, 2011Ok, if you dont know what a writ is, check my other posts… read that first.
For the rest of you, if you have already tried to get a writ, then you know that each "herold" will give you only one writ, and you must finish it before you can get more, making the number of writs you can have 4. Here is a trick to get by that:
For each "herold": Make sure you dont have any of that herolds writs currently and double click on him. The quest accept window will pop up asking you yes or no. DO NOT ACCEPT OR DECLINE IT. just leave that window alone and continue to double click the herold. Might take a couple double clicks, but eventually another quest window will pop up… making 2 of them total. When you have both up on your screen, click Yes for each. Do this for each of the 4 herolds, and you will get all 8 quests. Makes it easier to level the guild, as we can go out in a group and clear all 8 of them before having to go back to town.
Now, here are the locations of the herolds:
Eldar Grove: Wanderer Greencoast, standing by the stairs leading to the platform that takes you to the tree-house in the center of the grove
South Quenos: Puple Adept Wazzlefop, inside the mage tower, lower level, second mob on the right.
North Quenos(1): Caretaker Nogfizzle, standing by a tree just to the side of the Eldar Grove gate.
North Quenos(2): Guard Williamson, standing at the head of the stairs that lead to the castle on the right side. Cant miss him
That should be all you need to know. Good questing!
I Maxed Out All My Combat Skills In Under 1 Hour (Everquest 2 monk)
January 31st, 2011Ok..This is definately a bug.. Not sure how repeatable this is.. It may just be just my lucky break..
Im in Oakmyst forest and right near the door to Graystone yard where the dryads spawn there is an Oakmyst fawn right smack dab up against a tree.
It is gray to me (no xp or reward), but being the brutal killer I am.. I whip out my bow and prepare to lay waste. I nail it for 23 dam and its health doesnt drop at all! and he doesnt fight back! His health bar stays completely green!! I’m like WTF!!! Then I begin to drool…
Luckily I have about 400 arrows on me, so I proceed to blast away… in about 15-20 minutes or so I go from Ranged skill 27 to 53.
Now Im a Rogue and I am the piercing type of guy.. but I figure what the heck, I may as well work on my slashing as well. But DOH! I dont have any slashing weapon on me.
Taking a risk, I zone out to Greystone, buy the first axe I see and head back to Oakmyst with my fingers crossed. I zone into the same instance and round the corner..
..and there he is.. the cute little defensless Oakmyst Fawn.. my beautiful skill point sink, just where I left him.
Buwhahahahahaha
So I proceed to bash his skull in with my new axe.. 20 minutes later I max my slashing skill too…
I wish the little bastard fought back though so i could max all my defense stats…
Wierd or what?
Probably just luck but I thought I would share the experience…
LoL
